For livestock producers, maintaining a consistent and efficient supply of quality forage is essential. This is where pivot irrigation plays a crucial role, ensuring a stable water supply that optimizes resource use and enhances sustainability.
With climate change making droughts more unpredictable, having an efficient irrigation system makes all the difference. Pivots deliver water at the right time and in the exact amount needed, keeping pastures lush and productive throughout the year. This not only improves forage quality but also ensures greater livestock productivity.
Pivot irrigation provides uniform water distribution across the entire field, maximizing forage growth and extending grazing periods. The system’s automation reduces manual labor, lowering operational costs and making irrigation management easier with advanced technologies like iControl. Additionally, fertigation becomes more effective by delivering nutrients directly to the soil, improving its quality and ensuring optimal pasture development.
Awesome right? Wait…. there is more! Another major benefit is the reduction of machinery use for manure management, as pivot irrigation naturally dissolves cattle waste. Keeping the soil continuously moist also helps reduce pests like the cutworm, minimizing the need for additional chemical treatments.
Pivot irrigation is highly versatile and adapts to a wide range of forage crops. Whether it’s ryegrass, bromegrass, and fescue, or alfalfa, clover, and sorghum, this system ensures optimal growth for each type of pasture, depending on its specific conditions.
With pivot irrigation, pastures enter winter with higher dry matter potential, allowing more livestock per hectare and optimizing grazing systems. This means greater efficiency, fewer worries, and better results for livestock farming.
With pivot irrigation, your pastures will always be at their best… and your cattle will thank you for it!
